Dr. Aftab Hussain
I graduated from the University of Birmingham in 2003 and have over 15 years experience working in both the NHS and Private sectors.
I have the skill set to tackle all aspects of routine and advanced dentistry. I have a special interest in Advanced Restorative Dentistry such as tooth wear cases, crown and bridgework as well more Aesthetic Dentistry such as veneers and minimally invasive composite smile makeovers. I regularly do orthodontics (teeth straightening) and dental implants for patients who need complex dentistry.
I enjoy Intravenous Sedation Dentistry and regularly see nervous and phobic patients, some of whom unfortunately, have had the bad experiences of the older more aggressive approach to dentistry. Caries (decay) is a preventable disease and I feel that prevention is better than cure and I employ modern caries management processes into your care. Digital Photography in dental practice is at the cutting edge of dentistry today and I use these tools regularly in my day-to-day practice. One of my strengths is to explain all treatment options to patients in a clear logical manner, detailing all advantages and risks, as well a breakdown of costs so that patients walk out of their consultation with no question left unanswered.
A little about my training to date. I graduated with a BDS dental degree from the University of Birmingham in 2003. In 2004 I completed my SAAD training to become an intravenous sedation practitioner in order to deliver dental treatment to nervous and phobic patients. In the same year I completed my Invisalign training course to provide clear braces to patients.
To continue expanding my skills I attended courses on Endodontics (root canal therapy) and Advanced Composite Placement. In these formative years I worked on trying to perfect my foundational dentistry.
In 2009 I completed my 6-month smile orthodontic training to deliver more options for my patients. I furthered my keen interest in Orthodontics by completing the Fastbraces orthodontic training. In the same year I was a joint trainer for the Eastern Deanery providing mentor ship and guidance for new dental graduates.
I attended courses on Occlusion by the British Society of Occlusal studies to ensure an in depth study of this complicated field.
In 2013 I completed Botox and Dermal fillers training by Oris Medical. At this time I embarked on pursuing further training by completing a year long Postgraduate Certificate course in Restorative and Aesthetic Dentistry in Birmingham in 2014.
Simultaneously I completed my exams for the Royal College of Surgeons of Edinburgh and gained membership in February 2014.
To continue to develop my career I completed exams and attained a Postgraduate Certificate in Dental Implantology from Cambridge in 2015. Simultaneously, I embarked on a 2 year Masters degree in Restorative and Aesthetic Dentistry at the prestigious University of Manchester. I competed my MSc in January 2017 gaining the highest grade of distinction.
Future plans at this stage are postgraduate qualifications in Dental Law and Dental & Medical Education.
In my spare time my main passions are tennis, archery and mountain biking. Having sports in my blood, I have also has won competitions at local levels in snooker, table tennis, go-karting and football. These days most of my spare time is devoted to my 2 young girls.
